Yesterday I got an envelope from Norton with the first review-type reaction to the History of the Ancient World. It’s a “Prepublication Alert” from Library Journal–not a review (since they haven’t had time to write one; the galleys just went out), but a notice that the book may be of especial interest to libraries. A Prepub Alert is a good sign. It means interest in the book is beginning to build.

I’m 22 years old, newly-married, and hoping to homeschool my children some day. I’ve been reading some samples of your book online and it sounds fantastic. I grew up in public school, and am almost done with my B.A. in Middle East Studies and Arabic from a public university, but I am confident that my kids won’t be getting the same kind of education that I have. I was so thrilled to find this book because I’ve been hoping to learn how to provide a classical education for my kids for quite some time. My husband and I are preparing to be missionaries in the Middle East, so there’s no way I could send my kids to public (or even private) school, but I also don’t just want them to “get through” school; I want them to be more than mediocre.
Anyway, thanks for the inspiration!

Right… this is really fun stuff. It’s true that they should be careful how they use the word “fertile” when marketing to mainly homeschooling moms… do they really want to encourage us to bear more of these “kinds of children”? Ha-haaaa!
